aboutus
Root Metaphor ABA is an Oahu-based organization that provides behavior analytic services to children who are diagnosed on the autism spectrum. We provide both focused and comprehensive treatment with an emphasis on language/communication development as an important feature of increasing competence and reducing challenging behavior.
Our organization conducts both skill acquisition and functional behavior assessments. We use this information to design individualized treatment plans that address skill deficits and challenging behavior which may be acting as a barrier to your child's development.
What is ABA?
-
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an empirically supported treatment that uses the principles of behavior to alter socially significant behaviors in a way that is beneficial to your child, resulting in greater independence, communication skills, daily functioning, and social integration.
-
ABA emphasizes treatment based on the function of a person's behavior by evaluating what occurs immediately before, as well as immediately after the behavior of interest.
-
ABA therapy targets skills for acquisition, as well as behaviors for reduction, with the expressed goal of increasing your child's functioning and adaptability.
-
ABA therapy is considered the gold-standard treatment for autism. Studies consistently show that quality ABA therapy can significantly increase IQ and outperforms other interventions with regard to this metric.
"The ideal of behaviorism is to eliminate coercion: to apply controls by changing the environment in such a way as to reinforce the kind of behavior that benefits everyone.
~B.F. Skinner
